Clay at Last – Ole Videbæk

22 November 2025 – 3 May 2026

In the exhibition Clay at Last, visitors encounter an artist who, with both humility and strength, explores human nature through clay as a material. Ole Videbæk’s sculptures revolve around the body – hastily formed, sometimes rough and imperfect, but always imbued with a quiet intensity. Their fragility conveys an awareness of transience as a fundamental condition of life.

Trained as an architect, Videbæk works with a natural sense of structure and space, where weight and monumentality meet poetry and vulnerability. His inspiration ranges from ancient Egypt and the Northern European Bronze Age to the West Jutland landscape where he lives and works. His works speak to a timeless space where life and death, body and clay are inextricably linked.

One of his latest works, a bronze relief for the South Jutland Cemetery in Braine, was unveiled in October 2025 in memory of the Danish-minded South Jutlanders who fell as German soldiers in World War I. The relief fits naturally into an artistic practice that balances the historical and the humanly present.

‘Before clay knew it was clay, it lay fixed in the body of the rock,’ writes Ole Videbæk in a poetic text created for the exhibition. The words reflect his method – an ongoing dialogue with the materials of nature and with the layers of time that shape us.

Clay at Last shows a selection of sculptures and reliefs. Taken together, the exhibition bears witness to an artist who has consistently followed his own path – rooted in craftsmanship, but with his gaze fixed on life’s big questions.
