CERAMICS WITH CHARACTER – New Donation from Erik Veistrup

What happens when ceramics relinquish control—and the material is allowed to speak? In the exhibition CERAMICS WITH CHARACTER, you encounter works that balance between the controlled and the unpredictable, the recognisable and the imaginative. It is precisely within this field of tension that the works acquire their edge.

The exhibition is based on a significant new donation from art collector Erik Veistrup, who over several decades has followed and collected contemporary ceramics with a particular eye for the experimental and the sensuous.

For Veistrup, it is not about names or investment, but about quality, curiosity and works in which something is at stake.

The ceramics presented here reveal an art form in motion. Where tradition was once often characterised by perfection and technical control, today’s artists work with far greater freedom—exploring form, glaze and narrative. The result is works that surprise, challenge and captivate in equal measure.

The exhibition brings together a number of prominent artists, each of whom explores the possibilities of ceramics in new ways. Here, you encounter the organic and the grotesque, the poetic and the humorous—often in works that blur the boundary between craft and sculpture.

CERAMICS WITH AN EDGE is an invitation to explore with an open mind. Take your time, return to the works, and allow the experience to unfold. In encountering the unexpected, new narratives emerge—and perhaps also new ways of seeing what ceramics can be.
